TUTTO L'ORO DEL MONDO
35cm x 55cm - 2009

Plexiglass, gold foil (Hangs from the ceiling)

The noble metal is dense, soft, shiny and the most malleable and ductile of all. It has set the standards for basis monetary policies throughout human history as well as being used for several practical issues in dentistry, electronics and other fields. Great human achievements are frequently rewarded with gold, in the form of medals or trophies and other decorations. In time, the aureate element has grown to represent many positive qualities. In Greek mythology there was the “golden fleece”. The height of a civilisation is referred to as a “golden age”. Gold represents great value. Respected people are treated with the “golden rule”. A company may give its most valued customers “gold cards” or make them “gold members”. We value moments of peace and therefore we say: “silence is golden”. In popular culture gold holds many connotations of virtue, such as in the phrases: “has a heart of gold”, “golden moment”, and “golden boy”. Gold still holds its place as a symbol of wealth while Aristotle in his ethics used gold symbolism when referring to what is now commonly known as the “golden mean”. Recent calculations have estimated that “all the gold in the world” could be gathered in one single cube, that could easily fit in a normal living room. Therefore all that’s left on Earth of this fine element is very little, just as all the aural traits spread over the globe.
