DENIM
40cm x 60cm - 2010

Jeans, one dollar bill, band aids, chocolate

Denim comes from the name of a sturdy fabric called serge, originally made in Nîmes in France: serge de Nîmes was soon shortened to denim. The fabric has been in American usage since the late 19th century. At the times, a pair of trousers could be bought for approximately $1. They were mainly used by the labour class in factories, that often had to put up with dangerous working conditions; a small bit of chocolate would temporarily alleviate the straining toil.
